The film “Last Film Show” (Chhello Show), directed by Pan Nalin and produced by Roy Kapur Films, Jugaad Motion Pictures, and Monsoon Film, has been shortlisted in the Best International Feature Film category at the 95th Academy Awards. This is a tremendous honor for the country.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences jury has announced the official shortlist for the 2023 Oscars. Among the fifteen international films being considered for a nomination is “Last Film Show”.
“Last Film Show” (Chhello Show) is a coming-of-age drama film in the Gujarati language, directed by Pan Nalin. The film follows a nine-year-old boy named Samay (played by Bhavin Rabari) who is captivated by the magic of cinema and works to achieve his 35mm celluloid dreams. This year, the film was selected as the official entry from our country in the Best International Feature Film category at the 95th Academy Awards.
“Last Film Show” was released in theaters in India in October and in the United States earlier this month. The film is currently streaming on Netflix in India. The producers (Siddharth Roy Kapur and Dheer Momaya) and director (Pan Nalin) of the film released a joint statement expressing their excitement and gratitude for the film’s selection for the Oscars: “We are humbled and overjoyed that our heartfelt ode to the cinematic medium, ‘Last Film Show’ (Chhello Show), has been recognized by the prestigious Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.”
The filmmakers behind “Last Film Show” expressed their overwhelming happiness at the news of the film’s selection for the Oscars. They said, “Since being selected by the Film Federation of India as India’s official entry to the 95th Oscars, we knew that the film was destined for something special. We would like to thank the FFI, the millions of people who watched and appreciated ‘Chhello Show’, and our international distributors who gave the film the recognition it deserves. This is a historic moment for India, and we hope to bring the Oscar home soon.”
The 95th Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on March 12, 2023 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, USA. PVR and Netflix are the distribution partners for “Last Film Show” in India, while Samuel Goldwyn Films is releasing the film in the US. Orange Studios is releasing the film in France, and Shochiku Studios and Medusa are bringing it to Japanese and Italian cinemas, respectively.
