Renowned lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar often finds himself in the spotlight for his bold statements. As an avowed atheist, he doesn’t shy away from explaining his stance. During an event, when asked why he holds a grudge against God, he provided a humorous yet profound explanation. Javed Akhtar also revealed that his children share his atheistic beliefs.
Heaven Lacks My Favorite Fruits
Javed Akhtar has frequently mentioned that his father was a member of the Communist Party and did not believe in any religion or divine power. At an event, when asked why he has a grudge against God, Javed Akhtar jokingly replied, “My favorite fruits aren’t available in heaven. There’s no banana there. My favorite fruit, guava, is also not available. Maybe they are in hell. That’s why I don’t try to go to heaven.”
Why He Is an Atheist
Following this lighthearted comment, Javed Akhtar gave a serious response: “Many people ask me why I am an atheist. My answer is very simple: because I think.” In an interview with Lallantop, he mentioned that his children, Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar, are also atheists. Farhan’s children write ‘Not Applicable’ when it comes to religion.
Praise for Hindus
Javed Akhtar has previously stated that he does not believe in heaven and hell. He has also praised Hinduism on several occasions. Last year, at a Diwali celebration event in Mumbai, he said that Hindus are kind and large-hearted. He urged followers of Hinduism to maintain this trait, lest they become like others. At this event, he even chanted “Jai Siya Ram.”
