Director Mohit Suri, who broke away from the famous Bhatt camp of Hindi cinema, is called ‘Sequel Master’. In his 17-year directorial career, his two highest-grossing films are ‘Murder 2’ and ‘Aashiqui 2’. It is said that after watching the film ‘Aashiqui 2’, Mahesh Bhatt said that now he can hardly make a better film than this in his career. Mohit Suri made the film ‘Ek Villain’ soon after this. The film was a hit but after that his three consecutive releases ‘Hamari Adhuri Kahani’, ‘Half Girlfriend’ and ‘Malang’ did not get the expected success. Now Mohit Suri has brought another sequel ‘Ek Villain Returns’. Taking ‘Raaz: The Mystery Continues’ also, this is his fourth sequel film. He is also working on another sequel ‘Malang 2’.
Weak screenplay of the story
Mohit Suri’s latest film ‘Ek Villain Returns’ connects the end of its story with his last hit ‘Ek Villain’, which came out eight years ago. Police say ‘Ek Villain’ has returned. This Villain is a serial killer who kills girls who reject the one-sided love of boys. He has a similar history of his own and is living in his own different world. He sees everything in this world according to his own accord. His girlfriend is with him. He sings songs with her. Having a bath together. And when he feels like, also gets into bed. But, whether this is true or a hoax, he does not even know. The mystery of the story continues to enthrall the audience. Sometimes six months behind, sometimes in today and sometimes three months behind. At the beginning of the film, two stories run on the same timeline. Then both the stories come and meet where another mad lover enters his girlfriend’s house. The police connect the ends of the two, and what emerges in the investigation results in taking the story back to where the film ‘Ek Villain’ ended. Mohit Suri also leaves out the scope of the third installment of the film.
Film scattered on the ground of logic
The film ‘Ek Villain Returns’ is based on a weak story. This story and then the script woven on it blames the girls in every case. A girl working in the showroom of an international brand justifies sleeping with her boss for bonuses and promotions. Another girl tries to get her boyfriend wet in the rain because he is revealing his true love to her, and that girl is looking for another boyfriend. There is no such city in which the police do not even bother about the uproar in the marriages of the nobles. If the policemen speak Marathi, then it can be assumed that the city is Mumbai, but even after the murder of more than a dozen girls, the police are most active only when a singer goes missing. After all, the heroine of the film, who turned out to be.
Apart from being weak in the story and script level, Mohit Suri’s direction in the film ‘Ek Villain Returns’ also got derailed. He has not been able to control his actors. Except John Abraham, everyone is seen overacting. John Abraham also initially appears to be uprooted according to his character. Then slowly he tries to come into color, but there are many laxities with his character. A girl is constantly fooling a taxi driver into spending money, and her eyes widen when he sees her sleeping with someone else. This film takes a new test at every turn of the feelings and sensibilities of the audience watching Hindi cinema. To say the zoo is a part of the story but all the characters in the film are also like the wonders of a zoo. Surprisingly, the police names a serial killer as Smiley Killer.
Ineffective acting of Arjun, Disha, Tara
Arjun Kapoor seems to be trying his best to somehow fit into the groove of a superstar in Hindi cinema, but his acting and his physique repeatedly drag him behind. Tara Sutaria’s character is also dark. He is ready to share any sin for the sake of success. Acting doesn’t happen to her and she gets her lips matched on lip sync songs but she doesn’t have that kind of expression on her face. And, yes the film also stars Disha Patani. In the role of an opportunistic girl who hastened to throw off her clothes on every other occasion. Acting doesn’t happen even with Disha Patani. If the four characters of the story are seen, then according to the common life, there is no less than a villain and everyone is proud of it. The acceptance of a film like ‘Ek Villain Returns’, a film made only on dark characters in Hindi cinema, which continued to thrive on black and white characters, is not easy.
To watch or not to watch
The weakest aspect of the film is its music. Barring the revamped version of the song ‘Teri Galiyan’ from the previous film ‘Ek Villain’, no other song gets remembered after the film is over. Every time it is expected from a music company like T-Series that it will write a new chapter of music in Hindi cinema, but every time some old pages keep turning over. The background music is too noisy, and the cinematography and editing are nothing special to praise. There is nothing special in the film for the rest of the general public, apart from the audience who are happy with the violence and nudity, can watch the film. Watch it at your own risk.
