Aamir said- ‘ What kind of idea did you bring to the British Raj’s village and cricket? Don’t even read this to any other producer. I am not interested in this idea of paying lagaan and playing cricket.’

After 5-6 months, he again met Aamir Khan and told him again the story of Lagaan. This time, the way Ashutosh told the story, he became very impressed with it. But the problem was the funds. Because a lot of money is required to make a period drama.
Since Aamir liked this script in the second meeting, he decided to go ahead and produce this film. The film was made and was also a hit on screen. The audience got to see the unique confluence of cricket and lagaan in this film. It also won several awards in the year 2002. These included 9 Filmfare Awards, 8 National Awards and 10 IIFA Awards.
Ashutosh also worked hard to give this film a realistic look. Due to this, it was nominated from India for the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Oscars.
