The film Darlings starring Alia Bhatt has been released on Netflix today. It is produced by Shahrukh’s company Red Chillies. Shahrukh is not associated with the film as an actor, but as a producer. Alia Bhatt is also the co-producer of Darlings.
Directed by Jasmeet K Reen, the film stars Shefali Shah, Vijay Varma, Roshan Mathew, Rajesh Sharma and Vijay Maurya in lead roles. Shahrukh Khan and Alia Bhatt have come together for this film. Although this film was made for the purpose of releasing it in theatres, but seeing the circumstances not favorable, the makers thought it’s better to release it on OTT.
Story
The story of the film ‘Darlings’ is based in Mumbai. A Muslim dominated area of Old Mumbai is shown in the film. One is a boy and one is his girlfriend. Both get married. Even before marriage, the boy becomes a ticket collector in the railways. He is a lion in the house and harassed his wife. He gives such a loud mark on his neck that the locality comes to know. Wife keeps on suffering. At the same time, the boy suffers harassment in the office. His boss makes him clean the toilet. The girl’s mother keeps watching from the front house.
The story takes a turn and the girl raises her voice against the harassment. First the help of the police and when the help is not available then takes revenge by taking the law in hand. Meanwhile, there is an entry of a lover in the story, as well as the curtain rises from the mother’s past. Overall, it is an intriguing story which may neither appeal to the audience nor the critics.
Acting
Alia has no match in terms of performance. She totally gets into the character she plays. In this film also, she has lived the character of Badrunnisa. The real acting of Shefali Shah is seen. Rajesh Sharma has played the butcher’s character in an excellent manner. The film is like gold in terms of the performance of the actors, but in terms of story and direction, it is Khoda Pahar Nikla Chuha.
